Toddler killed crossing street near Ridgeland
Mesiah Akem Bright, 2, died Wednesday from injuries he suffered when he ran in front of a pickup on Captain Bill Road near Ridgeland, said Martin Sauls, Jasper County coroner.

According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, driver George Brown, 60, of Ridgeland, was driving about 35 mph in a 2005 Ford pickup. The boy ran from a driveway and Brown did not have time to stop before hitting him.

Mesiah saw his grandmother on the other side of the road and was running to her when he was hit about 4:30 p.m. No charges are pending.
