Senators: Hall should lead GOP
South Carolina’s two U.S. senators have endorsed Columbia attorney Kevin Hall to become the next head of the state Republican Party.

In a letter and e-mail sent to party faithful, U.S. Sens. Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint said Hall was the best candidate to build on the success of outgoing chairman Katon Dawson.

“From coordinating phone banks to assisting in campaign strategy, he has served in just about every volunteer role possible,” the letter said. “Throughout all of his service, he never made a dime from the campaigns he’s helped. He does it because he is a true believer in our party and in the conservative cause.

“Kevin’s philosophy of volunteerism is exactly what built our party’s grassroots organization. Who better to recruit and organize new volunteers for our party than someone who has volunteered so much of his own time and talent.”

Republicans will meet in May to choose their new leader, and the field has been evolving quickly since Dawson announced Saturday he would not seek another two-year term.
