Richland hearing to focus on yard debris |
When Lula Camp rakes all the pine straw and leaves to the side of the road for pickup, it takes her four days of work.“It’s a huge undertaking,” said Camp, who lives on a three-fourths-acre tract in Briarcliffe in Northeast Richland. “To have to bag it would just be horrible.”This evening, Richland County Council holds a public hearing on an issue that affects people in their own backyards: requiring residents to bag leaves, sticks and hedge clippings to keep the stuff from clogging storm drains.Council is scheduled to take the final vote on the proposal after the public hearing.Residents would have two choices. They could use either biodegradable bags or garbage cans marked “yard waste.” |
