Officials: S.C. will get enough flu vaccine
South Carolina has ordered 266,000 doses of the flu vaccine — enough for everyone who needs a shot, state health officials said.

“We are recommending anybody over 6 months get the flu shot,” said Adam Myrick, spokesman for the state Department of Health and Environmental Control. “We expect no problem with supply.”

Last year’s vaccine did not match up well with strains of the virus that were circulating. As a result, more people got the flu. In South Carolina, there was a widespread outbreak that sent hundreds of students to college infirmaries.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said this year’s vaccine includes the flu strains from last year.

About 700 South Carolinians die each year from the flu and 4,000 are hospitalized with symptoms. This year, the CDC is recommending older children up to 18 years old get a shot.
