Lexington mayor presses for road work |
Lexington Mayor Randy Halfacre pledged Monday “not to leave a stone unturned” in seeking federal aid for road improvements.Town leaders want $5.5 million to widen a half-dozen intersections to ease congestion on U.S. 378, he said in his fifth State of the Town speech. It’s the same amount sought last year — without success. But town leaders hope to get a share of aid promised to combat the recession. So far, town officials have $6 million in hand for a $70 million package that includes later widening Main Street (U.S. 1) and Lake Drive (S.C. 6).The three roads are major commuter routes and local commercial strips. All converge in downtown Lexington. |
