Lexington considering tougher towing standards |
Lexington County is considering a crackdown on towing companies that would impose the toughest county standards in the Midlands, if not the state. As drafted, the proposed regulations would: Create a disciplinary board that could suspend towing companies if they take too long to tow vehicles, reject more than one-fourth of calls for service, or violate any county or state law Curtail the practice of requiring upfront, cash payments by allowing motorists to use credit cards Raise basic towing rates to $100, or about 18 percent, to bring them more in line with the Highway Patrol’s rates |
