Army exhibit honors black soldiers |
How black soldiers have served their country will be featured in a traveling exhibit that stops this week at the S.C. State Museum.The exhibit, part of the Army’s celebration of Black History Month, will be in the museum’s Vista Room today through Thursday. Columbia native Brig. Gen. Arnold Gordon-Bray will host an invitation-only reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.Bray is deputy commander of the U.S. Army Cadet Command, which oversees Reserve Officer Training Corps programs in colleges and high schools.Black troops have fought in every U.S. conflict, including the Revolutionary War.“Throughout its history, the U.S. Army has shown commitment to diversity and takes special pride in acknowledging African-Americans who have served this country with honor and distinction,” said Lt. Col. Heyward Stackhouse, a professor of military science at S.C. State University. |
